Every time we wash our clothes, one of us ends up with holes in their pants. We can't figure out why?

This only happens when my brother washes his jeans. No one else has had this problem. He is also begining to see discoloration on the rest of his clothing.Every time we wash our clothes, one of us ends up with holes in their pants. We can't figure out why?
There might be something on his pants that gets caught on itself. Like the zipper where the pull is attached might be sticking out.Every time we wash our clothes, one of us ends up with holes in their pants. We can't figure out why?
Get rid of the jeans...or you could have a rat or mouse in your laundry room, this happened to someone I know a long time ago. You'll never see them, they come out at night, and chew up everything, put out some ';mouse d-con,'; UNLESS you have pets, or put it somewhere up high, where your pets can't reach it. If you have cats, DO NOT ever use any type of poison because they can jump up and get to it. Then you should get an exterminator to handle it, they are very good.
Make sure you take the knives out of your pockets before you wash them.
bleach!!!
does your son work with chemicals..... like batteries (acid) or any other chemicals @ work?? this would put holes in your clothes.
It sounds like the load is too large, too much/rough detergent and I turn them inside out to keep color fresh, but always zip those zippers up when you check the pockets. Zippers tend to age your clothing faster and snag shirts, etc. You'll also know that they're clean if they're zipped. Little known Ancient Chinese secret.
....Does your brother have a knife in the pocket...
tell him to wash then on a warm/cold or cold/cold delicate cycle...remember to read your tags. Also, put them in for about 20 mins on low heat and then ';line'; dry.

Also, for dress pants and shirts (work clothes) for longer life even if they say machine wash cold and fluff dry get them dry cleaned anyway...just a tip for later life. it will make them last longer.
maybe there is something sharp in his pockets
Humm, okay... too many clothes in the washer or are you adding bleach to your wash. Are you washing clothes after someone washing white clothes... maybe bleach still in the washer... do you separate colors and whites? These are all problems for discoloration but the holes can be the ripping the clothes apart or is your brother a mechanic... battery acid. Here's something... the activities your brother's into, can they be like skate boarding and sliding on the ground? I had the neighbor using bleach to clean his sidewalk... not rinsing the cement... brother sitting on the cement... even if the cement is dry... the acid is still there.
maybe your brother angered the washer gnomes!!! o.o

oorr maybe he's putting the holes in his pants for... 'fashion' reasons and doesn't want your mom to be all ';I PAID BLAH BLAH BLAH FOR THOSE AND YOU PUT HOLES IN THEM!jKLJQW''; .. so he blames it on the washer haha. i should have done that!!! lol
Tell him to stop using bleach on clothes that aren't white.
funny!
sounds to me like he is using javax in the water.
Way to Cafeene. My kind of answer.
what is he using to wash his clothing??? if he is using too much detergent, to much cleaning agent, too much bleach, etc, this could happen. also tell him to check his pockets and make sure there is nothing sharp that would damage his clothing in the wash. Check the inside of your washer and dryer to make sure there is no broken plastic attached to the tumblers, and other foreign objects that would puncture clothing.
Empty your pockets when you wash your pants and if that doesn't work, then put less clothes in at a time, and put it in the dryer right after the clothes is finished.
try wash his clothes separatly from yours and see
if ur washer has spikes in it thats y
I would check the barrel of the washer thoroughly to make sure there is nothing caught in one of the little holes. Also, make sure that there is nothing left in any of the pants pockets that might cause holes.

Is he rough on pants? I know my boyfriend is, and he ends up wearing out the fabric prematurely.

Wash all dark clothes in cold water to preserve color.
It's your detergent. It is too rouch for your fabrics. However, you also may be using improper settings for your loads.
I use to have that problem but I finally found me a smaller rock and quit hitting the clothes so hard. The holes just stopped magically.

PS I'm not kidding.

How do you wash black clothes without making them fade?

I bought a nice black hoodie and i fear that if I wash, it will look as if it were three years old. HELP!!!!How do you wash black clothes without making them fade?
Turn the hoodie inside out before you put it in the washer. Then wash %26amp; rinse it in cold water. That will help reduce fading. Use a coloursafe detergent or one made for dark clothes like Zero %26amp; wash with other dark clothing. I know they did a consumer tests results and the one that faded the least was Cheer (original formula). If you soak the hoodie in white vinegar just before you put it the wash for the 1st time, that will help seal the colour too.How do you wash black clothes without making them fade?
The most important thing is to always wash it in cold water. I think Tide has a new detergent out specifically for dark colors. or it may be Woolite. I forget which. And let it hang to dry.
cold water wash/rinse and Cheer now has laundry soap made especially for black clothing to prevent fading
cold water and wash it with other black clothes. It keeps the color in all of them and prevents you getting black on your other colored clothes. Some companies make soaps JUST for black clothes. One of those might be good to try.
cold water and a little dish washing liquid,no clothes detergent
Some use scotch guard to prevent this but once you wash the item you need to scotch guard it again. If washed often they this is not the way. Dry cleaning is not as harsh but can be expensive. I always washed an item by hand or on gentle cycle, use only cold water and hang to dry. Warm water and hot air temp can fade color and the hot air can weaken the material so it does not look so nice. I use a very delicate detergent like Woolite or anything without perfume or color additives.
Wash them only with other black clothes. Woolite has a special detergent made for dark clothes. (Most water has bleach in it and I think it neutralizes the bleach in the water).
Use detergent and settings for dark colors and . . . add salt ( at least 1/2 to 1 cup depending on the load size) to the washer the first few times you wash it. The salt helps set the dye in the fabric (and softens the water). I add salt to any load with new clothes and it helps keep the clothes looking better longer.
I would suggest using a laundry cleaner for delicates (woolite).... and hand wash only....Rinse well...then put in the washer to spin...
you've received several very good ideas,,what will also help is to turn the item you are washing inside out while using a cold water wash cycle,,good luck,,it worked for me doing this
Use Cheer and wash it in cold water.
Wash in cold water and line dry.
I wash ALL my clothes in cold water. This not only keeps colors from fading, but is good on your pocket book.
A cold water wash in a little soap powder.
Dry clean it. I wear a lot of black and I've tried everything, including hand washing. Sorry, that's probably not what you wanted to hear.
Hi,

Do all of the things suggested by the other posters. But I also keep a bottle of black dye in the Landry. There is this one shirt my husband has that is black and know matter what I do it always ends up fading. So every now and then I soak the skirt in a bucket of black dye. There is know need to use all of the dye at once, you can make it last for about 3 to 4 goes or more, then buy some more.
cool water, and cheer for color clothes, and drip dry. dryers put fuzz balls an them
get woolite for dark clothing and flip it inside out...makes clothes fad less
Wash in cold water only and and add ammonia to the load. It helps set the color.
What Michelle said and don't dry in the dryer. Hang it up and let it drip dry.
Wash all the colored wash inside out, and use detergent for colored clothes.

How can I wash my clothes preventing them from stretching both white and colored?

What detergent can I use also I remember seeing a commercial but forgot the name thanksHow can I wash my clothes preventing them from stretching both white and colored?
wash them in cold water on delicate - dry them in low to med heat - you can also use permanent press - on that setting the drier will begin to cool down on the last ten minutesHow can I wash my clothes preventing them from stretching both white and colored?
The detergent doesn't matter. Wash them in cold water and don't over dry them.
you have to read the label go by the directions

  • Why is it that when I wash my clothes they come out smelling like milldue?

I only leave the clothes in my machine for five minutes and take them straight out to dry on the line. As soon as I take my clothes out they smell as though they are damp. Can anyone advise/give tips/have or has similar problems? Thank You.Why is it that when I wash my clothes they come out smelling like milldue?
run a load with out cloths add 1/4 gal of bleach

you have mold growing in the washerWhy is it that when I wash my clothes they come out smelling like milldue?
MILDEW smell is due to body oils and sweat that is unique to you. To get rid of it, you need to use bleach and soak it in hot water for a while.

Golden rule: Any bad odor is caused by bacterial or fungal growth. Left untreated, it can cause problems with stuffed up nose because - the antibodies form in your mucuous, to fight the infection - the nose gets inflamed and breathing becomes difficult. I do not want to scare you - but I am speaking from experience.
Usually this means your place to hold clothes awaiting your getting around to washing them, needs better ventilation. Oxy-clean, or some other source of sodium percarbonate, will safely remove a lot of the smell. Less safe is sodium hypochlorite bleach, but it really kicks butt. Regards, Larry.
Sounds like the mildew is already in them. Wash it all the way so it will get water out of it. And put Vinegar in the wash too, to kill the mildew . (Unless it is white cotton, then use bleach) But never put both of these in for Vinegar %26amp; Beach together makes a gas that can kill you in sec.s or leave one mental retarded.
Maybe you need to change your water lines that go into your washing machine, they may have build up in them and the clothes are getting washed with the dirt water
there are the tablets called ';affresh'; they are supposed to get rid of mildew in washing machines. i haven't tried it though.
Sounds like someone at some time would leave clothes in washer for too long. Maybe try running a wash of just strong bleach water. Couldn't hurt.

Could I get sick if I wash my clothes at the laundromat?

I'm 23; I'm moving out of my house. One of the things I'm thinking about is that I won't have a washing machine.

I went to the lanudromat, and realized a lot of people wash their clothes there. A lot of people you just don't know where they've been.

Could my clothes catch something that could later make me sick?Could I get sick if I wash my clothes at the laundromat?
If you are really paranoid, do an empty machine load first with at least a cup chlorine bleach and hot water. As for dryer, wipe out first with a Chlorox wipe........don't forget to wipe the basket handles on the clothes baskets too.Could I get sick if I wash my clothes at the laundromat?
just wash yoyr clothes in hot and use deteregent and color safe bleach...and bleach your whites and wash them on hot..
I use laundry mat in my area and i have not caught anything there.
highly unlikely. The wash cycle should clear all germs

Where can I get someone to wash my clothes?

Forgive me, but I've always washed my own clothes. I've gotten to the point where I'm so busy and just don't have time nor desire to wash clothes and am looking around on how or what type of business does this for me?Where can I get someone to wash my clothes?
All DRY CLEANERS, have a Laundry Department and will wash, hang and fold clothes for you. If you just want the wash and fold and no Dry Cleaning or stain removal, they generally charge by the weight of the load.

I have a friend that drops his clothes off weekly and it costs him anywhere from $7.00 - $20.00 for 4 loads depending on what types of items need to be washed.Where can I get someone to wash my clothes?
You could hire a cleaning lady to do it. You would definitely want a pro and not some random person going through your dirty clothing. So, maybe you could think of other things for the cleaning person or assistant to do for you that you might not have time for, in order to simplify things. That way it's not like this person is just doing your laundry only.
i believe that LAUNDROMATS have been invented years ago

    (just kidding around)

but laundromats have drop off service

    thay wash and fold

    but only certain ones
Laundry mats do wash and fold clothes for you. Most will charge by the pound GL
You could just quick drop by a Cleaners.

It is true that if you wash your clothes in hot water in the washingmachine it helps get stains out better?

Like instead of cold water, i would imagine that it would help cause its hot water. hot water gets things off real good cause of the hot %26amp; the steam, so should i wash my clothes in hot water from now on?It is true that if you wash your clothes in hot water in the washingmachine it helps get stains out better?
Hot water is good to remove oily stains, but some stains like blood or grape juice , it will set them in. Cold is better for those things. If you use cold water, use a liquid detergent since the powders are usually made to disintigrate only in hot or warm. The chemicals in powders react only with the hot or warm temperature.

Yes, hot water definately shrinks clothes. So will the dryer. Using hot water is usually only recommended for things you either don't care if they shrink like old rags, maybe wash clothes, towels and sheets.

If you want to get stains out with as little care as possible, rub some laundry detergent or Dawn/Palmolive on the spot and toss it aside. Stuff like tomato sauce, grape juice and blood, get at it right away or you may not be able to get rid of it later. There are stain sticks at the store you can also purchase for this that you put it on the stain and toss it aside until you are ready to wash.It is true that if you wash your clothes in hot water in the washingmachine it helps get stains out better?
I belive it true that if you wash your clothes in HOT WATER it will remove more stains instead of shrinking or causing the stain to set in

I been doing this to my clothes.

I would like someone on this yahoo laundry board to actually prove there point instead of lying all the dam time.

What is the proper way to wash airbrushed clothes?

I bought a pair of airbrushed shorts at 6 flags and i lost my instructions on how to wash them. does anyone know??What is the proper way to wash airbrushed clothes?
i think inside out and on a cold water cycle... i hope that helps.

goodluck. What is the proper way to wash airbrushed clothes?
Turn them inside out and put them on a gentle, cold wash in the machine :)

Thats how i do mine and ive never had problems

Do you wash black clothes with cold or hot water?

i do not know whether if it goes in cold or hot..does it matter?Do you wash black clothes with cold or hot water?
I was ALL my clothes in cold water.Do you wash black clothes with cold or hot water?
    Usually Cold

however it also depends on if you also want to kill certain Germs

    Then you use Hot
    COLD!
Black clothes in cold water to protect the color. You may also want to use a product that will help keep the color like Woolite. Wash your whites in hot water because your washing machine is actually one of the places bacteria grows the fastest and the hotter the water, the less accumulation!
cold for dark colors, hot for whites
    cold or lukewarm

it does matter, because they will discolor
For the best results, it's best to wash dark colored clothing especially colors that fade with cold water, with a detergent such as Cheer, specially formulated so the colors won't fade.

    http://www.cheer.com
Cold hot if you use hot water it will shrink your clothes and fade the colour
I wash everything is cold water all the time.
cold would be best. Colors run less
Cold. The colors do not fade as quickly or run as much. I use cold for all my clothes as it also causes less shrinkage.
wash all clothes in cold water saves energy
either or but just to be sure cold you dont want them to shrink either
Cold Cold cold yup its so cold
All the cothes should be washed in cold water...!
Cold, and using a detergent that specifies for use with dark laundry if you want to keep the black...black :)
Cold water for all dark clothes.
    Cold
We use just cold water for evertything. But we use technology to get our clothes clean (no detergent) just cold water... It's called a LaundryPure, check it out under water products

  • What is the longest time you've waited to wash your clothes?

Due to procrastination or you were just busy. I wash mine every week. What is the longest time you've waited to wash your clothes?
Until I had to play a softball game in a tuxedo. What is the longest time you've waited to wash your clothes?
I go to a boarding school where we have different days for different halls to use the laundry room. Thursday was my hall's day, and I forgot one week. So, I had an abundance of dirty laundry. Then, next thursday I was really sick and I couldn't leave my room, unless to puke, and I slept all day, so I couldn't ask anyone to do my laundry. So, I had to borrow a lot of clothes and unoforms. Then the thurday after I had about twelve loads of laundry, 'cause I'm pretty much Mr. Monk when it comes to sorting clothes, plus I needed to wash my bedding REALLLYYY badly.
i can't wait longer than a month because I only have about 30 pairs of undies. even then, i wait an extra five days or so, and just go commando. anything to avoid doing laundry, and commando isn't necessarily a bad thing ;-)
I do not procrastinate, I am very busy. I'll get to it someday.
Lol I'm just lazy. I've gone a month without washing my clothes. I'm a lazy teenager lol.
    a week or 1 1/2
    Never really been a problem....!!
    2 weeks
    2 weeks
A little less than a week
Are you supposed to wash them?
MY MOUTH IS MY WASHING MACHINE
actually im supposed tp be washing them right now but im on y!a instead lmao
    wenever i get low
    a month haha
    like a week.
i am a teenager i dnt do that kind off stuff my mom does
um my fav pair of jeans, i waited like 3 weeks once lol.

Would you wash your clothes in a hotel laundry mat?

Would you use the hotel laundry mat to keep from having to pack 2 weeks worth of clothes for 4 people. Or do you think those machines are gross? I wouldn't think they would be any worse than a regular laundry mat. Plus my baby spits up all the time so I change her clothes like 3 times a day.Would you wash your clothes in a hotel laundry mat?
I use to work in a hotel, and take it from me, don't do your laundry there, you won't believe the things that room attendants find there. For example: food, garbage, use condoms. Seriously don't use them. Take the trip to a clean laundry mat or a dry cleaner, anything is better than hotel laundry mats.Would you wash your clothes in a hotel laundry mat?
sounds like you dont have a choice maybe try to wipe the outside out with some cleaner or use one of those wipes..
I'm sure they're just as clean as regular laundry mats. It's a washer, so how dirty could it be? I think it'd be worth it to pack light!
that or you all will smell bad. lol
    I wouldn't, especially considering that u have a baby.

You never know what kinds of germs are in those machines.

By the way, keep ur family off of the hotel bedspreads, they are super germy.
I've used them in the past and will again in the future. My rule is if it look clean, then I will use it.
Depends on the hotel doesn't it? If you are washing stuff that can take hot water and hot drying and good detergent, it will be safe.

Buy a box of those anti-bacterial wipes for extra care (but I wouldn't)
    Yes
I think hotel laundromat would be better than any laundromat dumps I been to. I would bet their washers and dryers work.
yes. clean clothes vs dirty clothes.
I've used them and they do a fine job. (-: I've never caught any bad diseases, at any rate. Maybe the heat of the dryer kills any bad things. Just check the drum before you wash anything.

Try not to think about the negatives, and think about the positives -- like clean clothes and not having to lug around 200 pounds of luggage!

However, if you are *really* worried and want to take the time and money, run an empty load with a cup of bleach. But, I think it's a waste of time.

Is it safe to wash 1 clothing item in the washing machine?

I don't have multiple of the same color of clothes to wash and I was wondering if it's safe to wash it in the washing machine alone, since I need this washed tonight.

Also if it is, how much detergent should I use since it's just 1thing

    additional info:

what I need to wash is 100% Polyester, Thank you!Is it safe to wash 1 clothing item in the washing machine?
put a towel in too so the load stays balanced when it spins.

just a little bit, I can't show you from here.Is it safe to wash 1 clothing item in the washing machine?
sorry Kat I liked your answer better / don't know why this one got the best answer there's no detail Report Abuse

Go for the small load setting, and put it on delicate cycle so it won't be roughed up by over agitating. Reduce the soap by at least 1/2, or more if your washer fills up less than half. If you can, check it during the rinse cycle fill up. If it appears to have suds in it, add softener like Downey or Snuggle to remove soap.

Your difficulty will be with the dryer. If you dry it by itself, it will not fluff out right, and it will be seriously wrinkled. Dry it with other items. You can dry it with something that is already dry, if you don't care about the already dry item shrinking a little. I would put the equivalent of 4 shirts in there with it. Socks, undies, whatever, but not towels. They may put little pills on your clothes.

How to wash my clothes without loosing color?

i bought a Famous shirt. and...

it says Famous Stars and straps.. and the words are colored and if i wash them i'll loose the colors so how can i wash them? im fine if i have to hand wash themHow to wash my clothes without loosing color?
It isn't washing clothes that fades the color, it is drying them. Just wash the shirt regularly and them hang it on a rod in your garage or something to dry. Clorox I think makes these sheets you put in the washer to make sure colors from new clothes don't bleed onto other clothes, too.How to wash my clothes without loosing color?
wash it in cold water, and line dry it

Do you wash your clothes after just one wear in?

Im starting not to causse i notice it fades,I mean it smells then i'll wash it but like most of my stuff if i Waer it once i wont wash it till the 3 wear?Do you wash your clothes after just one wear in?
    Shirts and undergarments yes

    jeans, skirts, shorts..no

I wear jeans a couple times before washing, i dont usually do anything that would cause me to sweat or get dirty though.Do you wash your clothes after just one wear in?
We being girls have to be very careful about our hygiene, so I'd recommend you put your tee's and undergarments in the washer after one wear itself.

As for jeans/skirts etc you should put it for washing after some days, thats fine.

However, it also depends on how long you've worn that set of clothes in that day, say you've worn it for like 3 hours or something, and you're gonna change..then there's no need to put it in the washer instead, air it a bit, don't just put it back in the cupboard. Hope I could help. :)
    Lol..good question!!!

umm i wash my under garments after i use it once, well not my bras, i wash them after 2 or 3 uses unless i did some sport that day. But shirts, i wash them according to where i wore them and for how long, but normally after 1 or 2 uses. Like for example, i stayed home with the same shirt and its clean and isnt stinky, ill ware it again lol. Ok now with the pants, i wash them after about 3 uses cuz they dont really get THAT dirty and smell fine to me

hope i helped鈾モ櫏 and btw, im not dirty and disgustingly smelly person..lol
Washing wears clothes out more than wearing them! Yes, if it still looks*and* smells clean, I'll at least get a 2nd wear from them. Until I'm incredibly rich and can buy all new clothes every 3 months, this is what I'll do. I might also spray some Febreeze on 'em, let 'em dry, and re-closet. You bet.
hell no that is just stupid i wear them then i hang them again and i fold my jeans again and after wearing them like 3 times then i wash them....because i notice that when i wash my jeans and my shirts they start to shirnk and then they dont end up fitting me because im a tall girl what can i say
It depends on what I'm wearing:

Underwear and socks - wash afer every use.

Jeans - wash after wearing it twice

Dress shirts %26amp; pants - wash after wearing it once

';bum around the house'; clothes - after 2 or 3 days (cuz I only wear those at night when I'm home)
clothes i was after 2 wears in normal conditions but sweater and stuff like coats after more wears

bra's, after like 3 wears and underwear after 1

    socks deffff after 1
i just wash them when they look/smell dirty or when i feel like doing laundry, i can wear something once and wash it but i can also wear something like 5 times and not have to wash it
no way, unless I spill something, they wear off too quickly, but 3 wears maximum

Wait, if they are smelly, yes, and undergarments, everysingle day
i wash it yeah when it smells or when there is dirt/ stain. usually every wear for whites, but not everyday for other clothes. not like anyone notices
i do... except for jeans or dresses.

i live in the south. it's hot here! you have to wash your clothes! lol.
Yes I do but I use woolite for all colors. It protects the colors from bleeding into each other and fading. It works very well, you should try it.

1 wear then wash only if its stained or dirty , othewise 3or 4 wears, otherwise its wastefull 2 wears for gym clothes
underwear everyday. shirts once or twice (i check the armpits for deodorant smells). jeans when they smell so up to about 5 days. I think thats normal.
no thats a waste also it depends how long youve been wearing it
i wash everything after wearing once except for jeans
outer garments I wash after two wears unless they are dirty/smelly.

Socks and undies I was after one wear.
I do same as you , only if your a sloppy person or pron ed to mishaps
    sometimes.
no i wash the stuff that has direct contact with myskin after one wear

but like jeans and sweaters and that stuff around the 2nd or 3rd

    unles its dirty of course
wash them in cold water if you dont want them fading
Depends how long I wear it
Shirts and panties yeah. bras, pants nope
    yeah
    yez
yeahh....becasue if you dont then there all nasty because htere DIRTY...

If you wash your clothes in warm and cold water instead of hot water, by what percentage will you be reducing ?

If you even reduce any energy at all? If you wash your clothes in warm and cold water instead of hot water, by what percentage will you be reducing ?
it depends on the operating efficiency of all of the appliances involved-- the water heater, the washing machine, etc.

Carefully consider the fabrics and dyes of the garment when deciding to go against the manufacturer's suggested wash instructions. After all, ruining $100 worth of clothes in order to save $1 is really not cost efficient, is it?

  • How to wash my clothes and not get them.....?

I just got alot of clothes from AE Hollister. Now I want to wash them without shrinking fading them. I want to wash them and let them be just like they were first bought. How can i do that? How to wash my clothes and not get them.....?
I wash all of my clothes from those stores in gentle cycle, with like colors (other shirts, polos, etc.) and in cold water. Then I dry them to the point where they are just about dry but not yet. Use fabric softener in your washer, and use dryer sheets in the dryer. This is what it says on their directions anyway lol. How to wash my clothes and not get them.....?
Use a quality laundry detergent that won't fade clothes. such as a color brightener. wash your clothes in cold water and if you use the dryer, use low or no heat if they are cotton. or get detergent with fabric softener in it and line dry your clothes.
Wash in cold water. Tide just came out with a new liquid detergent that won't fade or shrink clothes. It's called Tide Total Care. If you go to their site you can get a $1.00 coupon off. www.tide.com/en_US/index.jsp
u can use woolite and and wash them by hand and hang dry or tumble

Do you wash baby clothes before putting them on a newborn?

I just wondered whether it is common to wash and iron new clothes for a newborn baby before the baby wears them for the first time? All the women in my country do that but to me it seems pointless if the clothes are brand new. They say a baby needs a sterile environment in the first weeks of his life, but to me it just seems like a bit too anxious behaviour.Do you wash baby clothes before putting them on a newborn?
absolutely - you don't know where they've been or who has handled themDo you wash baby clothes before putting them on a newborn?
brand new clothes often have harsh starches and chemicals in their material so it's important to wash them before use, especially before use for a newborn since they have delicate and sensitive skin.

puting a capful of white vinegar in the rinse cycle will take out all harsh residue from previous chemicals in the fabric.

i think ironing newborn clothing is something people find enjoyable because the clothes are so TINY and CUTE. But i don't like ironing, so don't do it.
I never bothered to wash new clothes and have never had any problem with my son reacting to them. He was 6 weeks old before anyone told me I was supposed to prewash them!

Keeping a babies environment sterile in the first couple of weeks is actually dangerous as it prevents them from building up an immunity to germs while they still have the immune buffer of their mothers antibodies.
I wash all clothes before wearing them, not just baby clothes. Sensitive skin runs in my family and new clothes give me a rash, so I wouldn't chance it on my babies. My sister worked at Stitches, and she said they're clothes had something coated on them to give them a good look in the store. So maybe all clothes do. I always use either Tide Free or a all natural detergant on my baby clothes. Tide Free is cheaper though and does a better job. I wouldn't bother with the ironing though. That seems like overkill. Unless it needs to be ironed because it is wrinkly.
You should wash them in a baby detergent or a hypo-allergenic detergent before they wear them. That way IF there are any chemicals or any other harmful substances on them it will wash away. Then you can rest assure knowing that your little one will be comfy and not all itchy or breaking out into a rash from it.
I would wash them, but not iron them.

The new clothes could have some sort of chemicals on them to preserve them in the storage factory. I wonder at who has touched them too.

Ironing is not necessary for baby clothes and would make them less fluffy.

If you can dry them on the washing line, this is good as sunlight is a natural way to kill bacteria.
it is best to wash new and used clothes before using them

the new ones need to be washed to remove any left over dye and chemicals on the clothing that could irritate the babies skin ..

As far as a ';sterile environment '; is concerned ... im not going to keep a newborn in a plastic bubble ...

nothing is ever completely sterile so it seems a bit pointless to me to .

i dont iron my sons clothes , thats a waste of time lol

and i dont sterlise my sons bottles either .. just hot soapy water ...

germs are good .. they help to build up the imune system
yes you don't know what the materials might have been treated with in the country of origin ,, or if the persons involved in manufacture or packaging might be carriers of disease or germs ,, Lots of garments are produced in third world countries where standards of hygiene etc, are not as great as in UK for example . so lots of mums don't want to take any chances ,, Also some fabrics might contain stiffening agents or preservatives which washing will remove .
My baby is 6 months and I still was all her clothes before she wears them. Most of the clothes are made in China and other places and you really don't know who has handled them or where they have been before they are transported overseas, stored and then into the shops.
Washing your new borns clothes before the 1st wear is important to me. It softens the fabric making it smell beautiful and much more comfy! Not only that but you never know what gets on the clothes before they are shipped into shops. Bugs and grubby hands... You just don't know. Washing the clothes is much nicer!
You should....they're covered in stuff to protect them from damp and insects...that's because a lot of clothing is imported and has to travel by air....sterile is not necassary but avoiding chemicals which may harm the baby is good...
I washed all my daughters clothes.

They were all bought in a store, hanging on hangers, people walk around the shop, sneeze and cough all over the place, and I just didn't want to expose my daughter to all those germs.
It's best to wash babys clothes in a non-biological washing detergent. This helps protect sensitive skin.
for sure wash them. You dont know if the store workers dropped them on the floor then walked on them. Who knows what could be on them
they say you should wash the clothes before putting them on your baby.. ironing them its going a bit far i think. But i never washed any of my babys clothes before putting them on her and shes fine.
Of course you should wash them first! Ironing is not necessary though.

What do i do about clothes that smell after washing? what causes the smell and how do i remove the smell?

If they smell like soap, change soap brands to a smell you like.

If they smell kinda moldy, don't let them sit in the washing machine too long.

You can usually get rid of any bad smells with a drier sheet or two when you put the clothes in the drier. What do i do about clothes that smell after washing? what causes the smell and how do i remove the smell?
When you leave the clothes in the washing machine after it's finished, it causes a smell. Forgot the word. Get rid of it with febreeze, or if you have a dryer there is stuff you can put in to make your clothes smell nicer. Or, get some clothes softener and soak a cloth in it and stick it in with your clothes. This will make the rest of your clothes smell nice.

Or.... you could get a new washing machine? :)What do i do about clothes that smell after washing? what causes the smell and how do i remove the smell?
If you leave clothes in the washing machine after 2 or 3 days then they will start to smell sour. You should not leave clothes in the washer no later than a day. Otherwise you will have to wash them all over again. Just put them into the washer again and add a good amount of laundry detergent to the clothes. The clothes will be fine once you wash them over again.
Try arm %26amp; hammer detergent. It has baking soda in it. My husband works on airplanes outside, and between the chemicals that get on his clothes and the sweat (in the summer) his clothes can get pretty awful smelling. If you are unable to find arm %26amp; hammer brand detergent, add some baking soda to the wash. (directions will be on the box for the amount to add)

I don't know what 'smell' you are talking about, but baking soda should do the trick. The only other thing that might work is Febreeze... but it might leave visible oil spots.
Don't quite know what smell you are talking about...but if they are whites..add a little extra...bleach..I found that the Oxy clean products work very well. There is also Borix or Boric acid which is pretty good. If it is in all of your clothes it may be the water that you are using to wash them or some type of body odor that you may have gotten used too and can only smell when it is altered by the washing.
Hey mate, if your clothes smell worse than before you washed them in the machine then don't bother washing them at all ... just keep wearing them :-)
usualy mildew pets or the soap you use causes smell.get rid of it with febreeze.
If you leave your clothes sitting in the washing machine for ages after the load has finished, they start to smell, but to get that smell out all you have to do is wash them again.
Honey, if you wash your clothes and they still smell, wash them again. If after the second washing, they still smell, throw them away!! But before you do this, make sure that you're using enough detergent and make sure that it has a nice scent. Good luck, smelly clothes!

    How to wash white clothes?

they have no stains in them there brand new, i just want to shrink them but still there probly not completely clean from sitting in the store. so i was them with tide or just water and a lttle bit of bleach. there 100% cottonHow to wash white clothes?
Hot water and regular detergent for cellulosic fibers like cotton, linen, rayon, tencel. Dry as you intend to (in our house, I'd toss them in a hot dryer just to get the shrinkage out ASAP).

Polyester, nylon and other synthetics can be washed with warm or cold water, and dried as you intend. There should be little or no shrinkage with most synthetics.

Silks can be machine washed on a ';delicate'; cycle, with an acidic detergent (shampoo is a common choice). ';Regular'; detergents like Tide or Purex have an alkaline pH (it helps with getting greasy dirt out). Silk (and wool) are damaged by treatment with an alkaline (basic) solution -- hence the use of shampoo. A little white vinegar is often added to the rinse.

Wools should be machine washed according to label instructions -- machine washable wools are made that way by various processes and each type is treated a bit differently in laundry.

Not all wools are machine washable. How to wash white clothes?
Wash pure whites in hot water and a cap full of bleach.
    Warm wash/Cold rinse

    detergent
Wash in the normal way if they are not discoloured use washing powder. If they are discoloured use Nappy san. Only wash with whites. Warm to hot water

Is it possible to never wash your clothes?

i don't wash my clothes and they don't seem to be smelly or stinky. i mean no one say i smell and people look jst fine and natural around me. maybe is the enviorment my clothes are in, but is it possible to not wash clothes and still smell normal? LOLIs it possible to never wash your clothes?
Clothes that are not washed contain a microbiop organasm called bacteria unseen from the human eye.

Even though it may not smell doesn't mean that it's clean.

Dirty clothes is not a good sign of good health and it can be hazardous to you if you go weeks on end wihtout washing them.

I knew a guy that never washed his socks and wore them till they turned brown.

One day he left them out in the garage and the air hit it and they got hard and stiff.

I bet there was enough fungus and bacteria in those socks to kill mice.Is it possible to never wash your clothes?
That isn't very good personal hygiene. You should wash your clothes.
It doesn't matter how well you think you smell, it is unsanitary not too wash your clothes. Also, whether you know it or not, everyday you wear your clothes, they collect sweat and body odor. Have you ever thought that maybe the people around you stink too and just don't notice?
Yes how about throwing the away after you wear them
They might not smell and still look clean but they collect germs.

    Start washing:)

My husband has ruined all my colored towels and sheets with his acne treatment. It includes benzol peroxide which bleaches them. If it spotty and pinkish, that could be it.In our bathroom our towels and wash clothes look like trhey have been bleached. What in the bathroom can do t
At the hint of sounding utterly rediculous, I'm gonna ask are you using clorox tabs in your toilet? I am told that they work really good by the way...almost never have to clean your toilet again... anyways, I saw a show on dateline or somewhere, that we should always keep the toilet lid down because they monitored the air and everytime the toilet flushed it released particles in the air from the toilet water... they checked toothbrushes, towels...everything...lots of toilet particles..so gross, so one could only assume if you've got clorox tablets in your toilet water your releasing bleach into the air.

Now, may the laughter begin. :-(
Maybe the cleaning products you use...sometimes all purpose cleaners have bleach in them.
We have unknowlingly washed a load of laundry with a rag that was used for cleaning. That rag had bleach in it from the cleaner. That's a possibility.
A lot of face washes, especially ones for acne will bleach your towels.
do you have cleaning products nearby? sometimes those can cause bleaching.
do you line dry them in the sun? Sunlight can bleach

We wash our clothes all the time but often they have a stagnant smell in them, why? What can I do?

We hang them to dry, we hang them and dry them in the machine before they are dry, we put them directly in the dryer. We use fabric softener too!We wash our clothes all the time but often they have a stagnant smell in them, why? What can I do?
There may be smoke in the neighborhood, if not burning trash, tobacco or other recreational smoke, it might be vehicle smoke.

You might also just run the washer a few times with just clear water in it to clear it out more completely. It's hard to get all the water out of it. If you don't believe me, take the drain hose and lay it on the floor, then watch the left over rinse water siphon out in a bucket or tub. Smelly, isn't it?

Ask some of your friends what they wash with and how they like their results. All detergents aren't equal. We wash our clothes all the time but often they have a stagnant smell in them, why? What can I do?
Maybe its your detergent. Maybe thats just the way it smells or something. Only other reason would be that the room holds lots of moisture and humidity and the clothes are mildewing.
Yes, I agree either too long is washer and not long enough in dryer. Use some vinegar next time, with warm water....and alittle soap.
They are probably left in the washer too long after being washed,Hanging them should remove the smell if not add some borax to you wash with your detergent 1/2 cup. Will remove stale oders, but remove from the washer as soon as it quits and dry or hang outside, inside drying takes too long and clothes go stale.
I have had this happen, too, and I have no idea why. What helps is adding a cup of baking soda to the wash water and a cup of vinegar to the rinse. You can also purchase Febreze for laundry at Wal*Mart. This is the only place I have seen it.
Try some eucalyptus or lavender oil in the rinse cycle, and make sure that your clothes are completely dry.

Do I always have to wash my clothes with similar colors to maintain maximum brightness?

socks come out of my washing machine dingy.

    jeans,slacks, tops, come out dingy.

dresses and skirts come out dingy.Do I always have to wash my clothes with similar colors to maintain maximum brightness?
Wash like colors together in cold water with a small amount of liquid detergent like Tide. Rinse second time to make sure you are removing all the soap. Damp dry with dryer sheet on low temp and hang immediately. Do not over crowd the washer. If your water has a mineral in it that causes dinginess, then you might consider going to laundromat.Do I always have to wash my clothes with similar colors to maintain maximum brightness?
not really, as long as you keep the whites with the white and the colors with the colors. A way of keeping the colors from not looking faded is washing then in cold water, always!

Is cold water detergent a must if you wash your clothes with cold water?

Do you need these specialty detergents, like Tide and others make, or can you use your normal, everyday detergent. In addition, I know you can't use the powder detergents in the cold washes, so no need to counsel me there. Thanks. Is cold water detergent a must if you wash your clothes with cold water?
I wash in cold for almost all my laundry. I use a liquid laundry soap VS powder soap. Powder will not do well in cold.Is cold water detergent a must if you wash your clothes with cold water?
    umm... no.

I always use cold water to save on energy costs when I wash my colors and I use the same detergent that I use for my whites.
Naw- it's just a way for companies to put another product out there hoping that the consumer will fork out more cash for a speciality item!

I mean like really until recently according to these companies any cold water washing we did must have been very inferior,Right?
I use just regular detergent for ALL my cold water washing... EXCEPT for my delicates, jeans and darks I like to use WOOLITE but, that's just me. I buy a big Bj's warehouse bottle and it lasts me over a year. I also add 1c. of baking soda to the wash water which helps fight tough odors AND boosts the laundry detergent power ! Baking Soda is CHEAP I get 12 lbs. for around $5 and it great for other things around the house as well....

    Good luck
Just confirming your first 2 answerers - I use a cold wash all the time and have never had bother with the detergent - I use a cheap tablet form from a discount store. Great savings on both detergent and electricity in heating the water.

Another plus using cold water is that you don't get any colours running and spoiling other clothes.
yes it is a must because it was designed for cold water if you use hot water it might not do it's job

How do you get lipstick out of clothes? I accidentally washed clothes with lipstick in a pocket.?

If you dried the clothes then it is to late, but if not, you can put some rubbing alcohol on the spot and treat it with dishwashing soap. I have heard that a glycerin solution will make stains new again and then you can try treating them.

  • Washing 100% linen clothes vs. dry cleaning?

I heard that if a garment has 'dry clean' on the tag and not 'dry clean only' it can be washed in the washing machine. But what if it is a pair of linen pants? Is it safe to wash in Woolite in the washer? Doesn't linen material crinkle up really bad after it is washed? please help!Washing 100% linen clothes vs. dry cleaning?
I have washed linen clothing before. It's probably better to hand wash, because the material can be wrinkle prone. However, do not dry them in the dryer because they can shrink.

Of course, if you aren't opposed to ironing each time you wash them, you can put them in the machine. Use only COLD water.Washing 100% linen clothes vs. dry cleaning?
go buy the home drycleaning kit. dryel or walmart has an off brand. they work just fine.
    all I can say is:

DONT PUT THEM IN THE DRYER

lol, you will end up with briefs
I love linen and have many pairs of linen slacks and have come up with a solution to the wash or dry clean questions that works pretty well for me.

I wash the at home and dry them at home, but I take them to the cleaners to be pressed only, that way there are no chemical treatments and the pants (especially if they are light color) tend to not get that yellow glow but they are perfectly crisp and pressed.
Yes linen wrinkles when washed. If it is cotton, and you wash it in washer,it may shrink,so don't put it in the dryer. Then just iron it and hope for the best.I am not sure about the tag thing---sorry.
Linen can be washed , but some garments have a lining that can not be washed.

If your linen garment has no lining , you can wash cold water gentle cycle . Drying can shrink the linen and complete drying makes getting the wrinkles out very difficult. Iron a linen garment on a cotton setting on the iron, and iron while damp.

I take my linen from the washer , hang it to slightly dry , and smooth out the wrinkles from the wash at this time. Then after it dried slightly I iron. Works great for shirts. Getting a really great press on linen pants is difficult. The cleaners has a high pressure steam and a pants press that really does a better job than a home press.
Never, never, never, never, never wash linen yourself unless you want a rumpled wad of fabric that will take a goodly chunk of your life to iron smooth. Been there--nightmare!

Coke cola sounds crazy but it works just pour one 12 oz can in with a wash.I washed some clothes that had central heating oil on them?
First of all wet the areas with oil on them then rub your washing detergent on those areas and let them sit until they dry. Then put them in the washer and the oil and odor will be gone.

It's probably a combo of a couple of things. First, your washer might need a good cleaning out. What my appliance guru recommends is to take a dose of dishwasher detergent and wash some rags or old towels in hot water at least once a month. (It's easy for me because I have hubby's wood shop rags to deal with.) Borax would do the same thing.

After that do not leave the clothes in the washer, take them out immediately. Indoor drying does take a long time and can cause the problem also. What I do is to dry them in the dryer until about 1/2 dry, hang them up and turn on the small fan I keep in the laundry area to help circulate the air. And do not keep the lid/door closed on the machine all the time. That causes odors to build up from the enclosed, wet space. I always leave my washer door open when it's not in use.

We wash our clothes all the time but often they have a stagnant smell in them, why? What can I do?
Have you had the water checked? Are you on well water? If city water, maybe there are too many minerals in it, try using a water softening agent . Had similar problem once,it was the water. Also try different brand of soap, ingredients in soap could be reacting with the water.

Does anyone have a washing machine that washes clothes in 2-3 hours?

I am currently using an old washing machine. Its an Electrolux branded one.Front loading,White... circa late 90's( i bought it used) My question is this..Everytime it washes, the entire load takes about 2-3 hours..is this normal for other washers?Or should i change another one?It has served me very well for the past 5 years, the only complain i have,is that it takes just god dman long......Please help........

Distressed WasherDoes anyone have a washing machine that washes clothes in 2-3 hours?
nope, i wont let this washing machine stay in my house. Get a new one please, save your time, and your electricity bill. 5 years + previous unknown used time .. aizoh ... it's times up, i think your washing machine prefer to RIP. ;PDoes anyone have a washing machine that washes clothes in 2-3 hours?
I don't believe that this is normal at all. It sounds like the machine works, but you have some sort of timer issue that is causing it to run too long. In view of the high electric bill that you are creating, I would think it would be a bargain to have this fixed. It would pay for itself rather quickly.

Your clothes must me awesomely clean, though.
most new washing machines can wash an entire load in half that time and use less water and at a lower temperature. It is probably ok but if it breaks down it would be cheaper to get a new one .You could try using a different wash cycle that may not take as long and a lower temperature
Find a service man and get your timer re-adjusted, most washers finish their wash/rinse cycle in a half an hour.
DUDE THAT IS JUST SAD GET A NEW ONE NOW I HATE TO SEE YOUR BILL.
go to http://www.ajmadison.com/ they will help you.
that is ridiculous but so is your language- buy a new washer for what a repairman will cost you to come out

If by ghetto wash you mean ';washed it in the sink and then hung it on the shower rod to dry,'; then yes, I have.

Otherwise, I'm not sure what you mean.Have you ever ghetto washed your clothes, and do you know what it is?
Well you mean in a tub, sink, pool, or with a water hose right?

Well I only did it in the tub and sink.
do you mean washing your clothes in the bath-tub? I've done that and not thinking(mid winter) took them outside to dry... half hour later they were frozen stiff.

Is there any danger of washing mechanics clothing in washing machine?

my stepson works in a garage as an apprentice he gets filthy oil etc is there any danger for us using a normal washing machine to wash is uniform or should it be sent away to be washedIs there any danger of washing mechanics clothing in washing machine?
You may have to check your filter more often and also the risk of some of the oil and grease getting onto the other clothes even if you wash separate as it could stick to the drum, I personally would not recommend it, and anyway doesn't the garage send them away to professional cleaners most firms do so I would check it out first,Is there any danger of washing mechanics clothing in washing machine?
If his job offers laundry service, I would go that route, but otherwise you should be okay using a good detergent that will get as much of the oil and grease as possible out of the clothes. Running them through two complete wash cycles might help.

My husband has worked maintenance in food plants for 25 years. Most of the oil and grease he gets into is food grade, but I still wash his uniforms in hot water and if they are very dirty I wash them twice before putting them in the dryer. Using hot water seems to help loosen some of the grease and grime and doesn't seem to effect the fabric at all.
    Danger of shrinkage.
    hi there

my father has been in the motor trade for over 20yrs we've never had any problems with washing his clothes.

    rachael
No it should be fine. But make sure he takes them off first (mechanics have a bit of a reputation for being a bit stupid).
None what so ever, but make sure you check pockets very carefully. Use bio washing powder and the hottest setting of your machine if the clothing can stand it.
No I don't think so - my stepson also worked in a garage over the summer and the machine seems none the worse for dealing with his overalls. Go for it.
yes theres a danger, if he's still in them.
No, no danger in washing dirty oily clothes in the washer, just add one cup of White Vinegar in the washer and wash on the hottest water clothes can handle full cycle without detergent the vinegar will get the clothes clean and soft without fabric softner even odor free and will also disinfect and sanitize anything washed in vinegar, when drying in the dryer do not add any dryer softner sheets as vinegar softens clothes and leaves them static and lint free Good Luck !
Make sure his pockets are empty.
Absolutly no risk to the washing machine or other clothes but best not to putother clothing in with them
How to make points with your stepson: Wash his workclothes in the machine, use a good detergent like TIDE, dry and fold them. Sending them out sends a message to him that you don't want him around. Use your head.

  • What is the best way to wash white clothes? My wife and I can't figure it out.?

Whenever I try to wash white clothes, they look the same as when they were put in the wash. Are there any tricks or better methods to using bleach to get clothes sparkling white? What is the best way to wash white clothes? My wife and I can't figure it out.?
Actually the best way to clean whites is by adding a bit of Borax to the wash. It is a laundry and enzyme booster and is a natural product.

Your whites will be noticebly brighter without soaking or harming the fabric with bleach.

Oxy type products only work on organic issues.

Wash your whites separately (preferably hot water but not necessary) and remove from washer as soon as possible.

Borax is great for many things. It removes any musty smells and midew. It is in a box and is a powder.

It is safe for colours too and cost effective for use.

    Good Luck!

HeatherMWhat is the best way to wash white clothes? My wife and I can't figure it out.?
a liquid bleach mixed with Oxyclean powder %26amp; laundry soap left to soak for an hour makes them come out looking brand new. I had pairs of white undies that had blood stains. I had them for 3 years and every blood stain came out and they looked new. Report Abuse

For doing laundry with hard water, to soften the clothes, In a one gallon jug of warm water put four cups of washing soda(this is found in the laundry aisle) then add to this 2 cups of Borax, also found on laundry aisle. When doing your laundry(Whites),add one cup of this mixture to each load .this will soften your water and keep your whites white.
Always use hot water when washing whites. Use a good detergent, either liquid or powder. Use one full cup of bleach per load and I also suggest the use of oxy-clean or a similar product. It romoves stains and body oil better than just detergent and bleach alone.
Whites only...Hot water with about a 1/2 to a cup of bleach depending how bad your whites are. Don't for get to add laundry soap...For linen, if you white sheets are not as white as you like, soak in cold water before washing in hot water...
Use cold water for everything that is not chemically produced (dirt, food that doesn't have oils etc.). If the cold doesn't get it out....then wash again with hot water. For oil based stains use hot water always. If you need an extra good washing, fill the washer with the whites, bleach and washing powder/liquid...let it swish around for a little while, then open the washer door to let it soak for a few hours before continuing. Then wash a second time if needed. You shouldn't have to wash it twice very often though...only when it's really badly stained. Be sure to get all the stains out before putting it in the dryer. The heat of the dryer sets the stains in.
My husband %26amp; I use Oxi Clean (a product Wal-Mart offers on the washing detergent aisle). It isn't expensive %26amp; can be used as a presoak and / or in addition to your regular washing detergent.
    BUY AND USE BORAX.
    oxi clean
    Hot Water, Clorox, and OxyClean
I usually use Bleach and Tide and like a half of cup of baking soda. It works well for me, But I never really have alot of whites. Also, I either fill the washer before and add the bleach so it doesn't eat into anything. Good Luck
    Chlorox.
    Use washimg powder fer krissakes
soak it overnight in bleach with little water
I wash my whites in hot water w/ detergent and bleach. First though, I soak the laundrey for 30min w/ just the bleach, then I add the detergent and wash.
I am a cook and wear whites every day. I always wash my whites in cold water and spray every stain with awesomes stain remover. Wash with clorox bleach. Hang dry as much as you wish. Heat of any kind sets stains in your laundry. Once it hits the dryer, the stain is set and it wont come out.

If I wash my clothes with someone elses that has a yeast infection can I become infected?

My sister has had a yeast infection for a couple weeks now and I am freaking out that I am going to catch it!!If I wash my clothes with someone elses that has a yeast infection can I become infected?
no, washing your clothes with hers will be fineIf I wash my clothes with someone elses that has a yeast infection can I become infected?
No, it would take extensive contact with the infected body part to have a chance of even catching a yeast infection. In most cases, a woman with a healthy immune system would be able to fight a small exposure off easily. Yeast is a fungus that grows in the vagina due to not enough good bacteria present. Without taking high doses of antibiotics, excessive exposure, or dueching, etc your good bacteria would fight these things off even if it was possible to catch it from clothing. Washing may not necessarily kill all yeast, but the dryer should. The dryer heat kills most germs, not the washing machine.
No. Use hot water and soap. Yeas t infections need certain climate in which to breed...perfect chemical situation (bad acid balance+sugar+ yeast +hot humidity=yeast infection.)

Also she needs to keep her pipes clean..#2.

If your sister drinks plenty of water and lays off the sugar and toxins, she will be fine. She needs to get plenty of rest, drink tons of water, keep clean down there...wear loose clothes and cotton undies...pantihose are bad. She can use Betadine vag. suppositories before bed with a pad and go to bed. In morning infection will be gone.

Use pad because it stains--iodine based.

How to wash the clothes with blood?

and i want to know the element of the blood

and how blood and someting reacteHow to wash the clothes with blood?
The best thing I have found for removing blood from clothing is a product called ';Greased Lightning';. Spray it on the stain completely and soak in cold water. Of course you will find 547,000 other uses for the greased lightning. We use it for everything at our house. How to wash the clothes with blood?
Pre-treat the spot with Vivid (color-safe) Bleach. Rub the bleach into the fibers well and then soak/wash in cold water. Re-check the spot before putting the clothing in the drier. Sometimes it takes a couple of treatments.
I use hydrogen peroxide too. My husband is a nurse and he uses it all the time on his scrubs.
I had a nurse tell me once to soak the item in milk. If it is a small spot, use milk and a toothbrush. She said that there are natural enzymes in milk that break the blood down, it has always worked for me.
    Blood Stains:

To clean blood stains from clothes pour Hydrogen Peroxide directly on the stain and allow to foam, before washing. The peroxide will break down the protein in the blood and release the stain.

The blood that flows throughout your body is refered to as whole blood. Whole blood contains three types of blood cells, which are:

    platelets

    red blood cells

    white blood cells

These three types of blood cells are mostly manufactured in the bone marrow These cells travel through the circulatory system suspended in a yellowish fluid called plasma. Plasma is 90% water and contains nutrients, proteins, hormones, and waste products. Whole blood is a mixture of blood cells and plasma.

Platelets are tiny oval-shaped cells made in the bone marrow. They help in the clotting process. When a blood vessel breaks, platelets gather in the area and help seal off the leak.

Red blood cells are shaped like slightly indented, flattened disks. Red blood cells contain an iron-rich protein called hemoglobin. Blood gets its bright red color when hemoglobin in red blood cells picks up oxygen in the lungs. As the blood travels through the body, the hemoglobin releases oxygen to the tissues. The body contains more red blood cells than any other type of cell.

White blood cells are a key part of the body's system for defending itself against infection. The blood contains far fewer white blood cells than red cells, although the body can increase production of white blood cells to fight infection. There are several types of white blood cells, and their life spans vary from a few days to months.

One thing to take note of is just why removal of blood stains is so difficult. The fact is that blood has a considerable amount of iron in it. Blood may bond with the carpeting, shoes, or clothing, left to dry, making it very hard to manage and harder to remove.
I use hydrogen peroxide. It is a never fail stain remover. I learned this from my grandma after I was in a car accident and she was able to get my clothes spotless in a matter of a few minutes. You may need to reapply if needed. Works on wet or dry blood, even after laundering!
    Soak out bloodstains

Whether you nick yourself while shaving, or receive an unexpected scratch, it's important to treat the stains on your clothing as soon as possible; bloodstains are relatively easy to remove before they set but can be nearly impossible to wash out after 24 hours. If you can get to the stain before it sets, treat it by pouring full-strength white vinegar on the spot. Let it soak in for 5-10 minutes, then blot well with a cloth or towel. Repeat if necessary, then wash immediately.

    Blood

Pre-soak in warm water at least 30 minutes. If stain remains, soak in lukewarm ammonia water (3 Tablespoons per gallon). Rinse. If stain remains, work in detergent, and wash, using bleach safe for fabric.
Try proxide and cold water . Soak and scrub
Clorox 2 liquid bleach will wash blood out of clothes.

Hauling processed lime, wondering whats the best way to wash my clothes without damaging my washer.?

At the end of the day my clothes are just full of lime dust. And when that lime gets wet it sticks to everything. I'm afraid it is going to gum up my washing machine. Can anyone help thanks.Hauling processed lime, wondering whats the best way to wash my clothes without damaging my washer.?
Hang your clothes on a line or just lay them down on clean cement. Wash them off on all sides with spray like fantastic or lysol and high pressure garden hose. Then put them in the wash. I used to do this to my horses blankets to keep from mucking up my washing machine.

If instead of washing my clothes, I just buy new ones, am I lazy?

Yeah I think so, your wasting your money! You could take a pile of clothes and turn on the machine, wait a while switch machines to dry fold and be done instead of spending hundreds on dollars on clothes. Sorry but yeah, your lazy :)

    probably!

    or you are really rich
You are either lazy, or someone else is paying for the cost of your clothing! May I suggest you hire someone else to do you laundry. At least the money you are donating to the retailers will now go to someone that probably needs it more.

Why is it bad to wash your clothes in the dish washer?

ok im 15 years old an my mom told me to do my laundry and we were out of detergent and the washer and dryer were full so i figured the dish washer works good in the movies why dont i try it.... well my mom got home a half an hour later and now im grounded for 3 monthes from tv videogames and computer (im on a school comp.) whats up with that? Why is it bad to wash your clothes in the dish washer?
All dishwasher liquid has bleach in it, so it could ruin your clothes. You cannot use laundry detergent in the dishwasher. Why didn't you empty the dryer and fold the clothes, put the wet clothes in the dryer and dry those, while washing your clothes in the washer. If you are 15, you should be helping around the house anyway, if your Mom is working outside the home especially. Take your punishment and know better the next time. When I was 15, I was helping with the laundry and cleaning, hanging clothes outside to dry. Even doing the ironing.

Why is it important to wash new clothes, beddings before first use? is it a health risk?

i've always been unfortunate in that i 'ruin' clothes when i wash them ( i'm bad at following wash instructions) and i tend to not want to wash new clothes until absolutely necessary (obviously after wearing them a couple of times). am i risking my health? Why is it important to wash new clothes, beddings before first use? is it a health risk?
Probably not. For the most part you wash them to remove any chemicals from processing the garments. If you start to have a reaction on your skin then I would be concerned.

I am much more likely to wash bedding before using than I am clothes. I think it's important to wash bedding before use.

When in doubt use cool water with your clothes and gentle or knit cycle. Use medium heat instead of hot for clothes when drying and try to get the tshirts out of the dryer when they are just barely damp and almost dry this way they will wrinkle less and you can hang them up right away.

You can always rinse new clothes in the sink with cool water and drip dry in the bathroom before using to remove any chemicals in the material but not put it through a full wash in the machine.

Also remember dark clothes with dark clothes. Darks wash in cool water and whites and lights in meduim water. Wash your sheets and towels seperately from your clothes. Always wash sheets in hot water to kill dust mites, bacteria, etc.

I also like to wash jeans and heavy materials together instead of with my knits. Why is it important to wash new clothes, beddings before first use? is it a health risk?
Not really risking your health, unless you're allergy prone. There are still dyes, starches and fixatives in new clothes and bedding that can irritate your skin.

It's not hard to wash most things... or why not try a dry cleaner?

How many times do I need to wash my clothes after possible contact with poison ivy?

I've washed the clothes twice that I was wearing when I came into contact with a vine that may have been poisonous. I did get a horrible rash all over after contact with the vine. I'm just not sure if there is something I need to do to safeguard against more rashes. How many times do I need to wash my clothes after possible contact with poison ivy?
I use the hottest water the fabric can stand, and lots of detergent.

I only wash the items once. You should be fine.

Usually it's my husband who gets into poison Ivy, and I get a rash

from handling his clothes. He's been pretty good about taking them off,

turning them inside out, and putting them in a plastic trash bag for me. Then I wear disposable gloves to handle the items.

So sorry! I'm highly allergic myself! Hubby is not at all

allergic to poison ivy. Good thing, as we have lots of it.

How can I wash my clothes without shrinking them?

I just bought a few new shirts but I think they are going to shrink when I wash them. Ive heard of not putting them in the dryer. Does this work? How can I wash my clothes without shrinking them?
Wash them in cold water only and hang on a hanger to dry. Do not use a dryer. Heat causes cotton to shrink. How can I wash my clothes without shrinking them?
But, if you don't use a liquid fab. softener in the wash, the shirts will be more wrinkled and stiff. I have several shirts that I hang to dry to keep them from shrinking and I wash them all together once/week w/ a cap full of downy to keep them from feeling stiff.
You are correct - dryer is what would shrink clothes. You can wash in cold water and hang dry the clothes.
Sweetpea has it right cold water wash and line dry is best method
yes wash them in cold and dont dry them
Everyone has it right ... cold water ... hang dry.

    About hand-washing clothes?

My mother have been washing my clothes for all my life, and i couldn't stand anymore of how my clothes start to stink when environment is humid. What is the cause of this? I recently decided that i should wash my own clothes since i know where i perspire and stuff. But i tried it and it still stunk. The soap i am using for the clothes is this ';laundry soap'; my mother bought that i don't think works that well. Is there any method you guys can recommend me, or any detergent i should buy to get the ';humidity smell'; off.

    My method:

    I get a small tub.

    Fill tub with warm water.

Dissolve a little bit of the ';laundry soap'; in the tub

Soak clothes in tub, scrub areas where i perspire

empty tub, and refill with warm water again

Soak and refill tub until clothes are rid of anymore soap

squeeze clothes to release any water

    Hang in bathroom

Is there anything wrong with my method? Because i think it is only the soap i am using.About hand-washing clothes?
It sounds like your clothes may have been left in the washer too long at some point and started to mildew. Set your washing machine on the final rinse cycle and let it fill with water, add about a cup of white vinegar and your clothes, leave the lid up or turn the washer off and let the clothes soak for a couple of hours, turn the washer on or shut the lid (whichever will make the washer rinse the clothes and spin the water out), re-set the machine to wash, add a half cup of baking soda along with your detergent and let it run the full cycle. If you use lliquid fabric softener, be sure to add it in the final rinse. If you don't use fabric softener in the washer, you might want to add a cup of white vinegar to the final rinse. The smell of the vinegar will dissapate as the clothes dry.About hand-washing clothes?
I am not sure clothes are getting cleaned well enough. But try adding half a cup of vinegar to the rinse and then rinse this again. Vinegar is great at removing odors and stains. Also hang outside to dry for fresh air and try to find another indoor place to dry clothes as bathrooms are usually to humid for this. Maybe an area of kitchen near the heat vent.
Just add a cup or so of white vinegar to the tub and let the clothes soak in that for a few minutes before you start to wash...The vinegar will sanitize your clothes and also make the ';laundry soap'; work much better.. :-)
A good hand-washing soap is Woolite. Make sure you are not using a laundry soap that is meant for washing machines. However, the humidity smell is likely from the air drying in your bathroom. If the humidity cannot leave your bathroom when you are drying your clothes, it will cause the clothes to smell musty. Dry your clothes in an airy room with windows open or outside. A fan may help as well if it is blowing fresh air. I am assuming you are avoiding a powered dryer, but if not drying your clothes with a dryer sheet would also help that musty smell. You could also try febreze spray after your clothes are dry. Good luck!
Well... why don't you wash your clothes ina washer? But ... if I were to wash my clothes by hand I would use Tide with bleach and for the rinse I would add what ever amount of snuggles I liked. this works for me the smell of the Tide and snuggles is so good you can get several kinds of smells. You can use baking soda too it's good for body oder just add some to the wash water :) If the oder is real bad scrub the baking soda in where it stinks but, it should work good enough just in the wash water. :) My son was big and sweating was a big thing and I had wash his jerseys in the tub, so.....I feel your pain! :)

  • Is it normal for washing machine drum/clothes to be warm when it finishes the wash?

yes... because the washing machine uses warm water to wash the clothesIs it normal for washing machine drum/clothes to be warm when it finishes the wash?
Final rinses are usually done in cold water, however some programmes may use warm water. Check that the clothes are washed properly an that the drum is empty of water. The door may not open if there is still water visible. Next time you do a wash listen to the noises the machine makes in the different parts of the cycle. You should hear the cold water rushing in for the rinses and being pumped out again at the start of the spin. You dont say if it is a new machine or one newly fitted If it is then the feed pipes may be on the wrong way round!!Is it normal for washing machine drum/clothes to be warm when it finishes the wash?

Best way to wash black clothes?

How can I wash black fabrics to prevent fading?Best way to wash black clothes?
I wash all my darks and blacks inside out, in cold water with woolite for darks. If any of my black clothes need freshening up and they are natural fibers like cotton, then i re-dye them with some ordinary RIT dye and they are as good as new. My family wears a lot of black, we're sort of like the Osbornes, only without a television series. Or the drugs.Best way to wash black clothes?
Cold water, and vinegar rinse sets the colors so fading will be minimal.

I add about 1 1/2 cups vinegar to the rinse water on setting colors. Then rinse normally and dry. NO the clothes do not smell like vinegar when dry.
this site has several answers to your question

wash white with white. if they are pure white use bleach. if not use color-safe bleach. or oxy cleanHow do you wash white clothes?
Wash in hot (or warm water if you have an energy saving

washer) First put in the detergent, start the cycle and

let it wash for about 5-10 minutes, stop the washer

before it starts to drain (I usually set a timer so I know

to get out before the wash cycle ends) Now add

the bleach, 1 cup, dilute it with 1 cup water so you

can pour it directly into the washtub. Close the

machine and re -set the knob back to the start of the

wash cycle, this time let it run all the way thru.

Clothes come out cleaner if you give the detergent

some time to work before you add the bleach.
    bleach works wonders
If they are real dengy, fill the washer with HOT water add detergent and bleach let the washer agitate for a second open the lid and put you white clothes in close the lid and let it agitate a few minutes then open the lid and let the soak for a few minutes the close the lid and let it finish the wash cycle
Shout 'em, wash them in hot water, and possibly use Woolite, bleach or Tide with bleach alternative. Also, don't wash them with other colors. Good luck!
hot water +1 cup of bleach

To help set in the color of new clothes, presoak them with enough cold water to cover the clothes, 1 cup white vinegar and 2 teaspoons salt. When washing clothes that you don't want to fade, turn them inside out and wash w/ cold water. How do you wash new clothes?
Every piece of clothing that you buy has a tag sewn on the inside , it either tells you if you need to dry clean it , or wash in cold/warm water by hand or machine .

It all depends what you need to wash and what it is!
if your clothes are NOT that dirty, wash on a delicate wash, you are putting them through too long a wash and too hot a wash, when theres no need, a delicate wash is ample.
    Turn clothes inside out.

    Gentle or shorter wash cycles.

  • How should i wash my clothes so my dark colors dont fade away?

i already know that you wash it in cold or warm but it still fades away my colors. Is there a special kind of item that i can use while i wash them? How should i wash my clothes so my dark colors dont fade away?
For darks you want to wash them in cold and wash your clothes, especially pants inside out.How should i wash my clothes so my dark colors dont fade away?
cold water, and not washing them as much as other clothes also cheer soap has a new brand out for dark clothes only
Vinegar or a cup of table salt added to the rinse water ';sets'; the dye and keeps them from bleeding on to other garments. Several detergent manufacturers also make formulations for dark colors, but vinegar works just as well and is much cheaper. If you add the vinegar the first time you launder it and every now and again thereafter your darks will stay looking like they did the day you bought them.
It's not so much the washing. Buy color fast clothes and use no bleach except on white things. Cheap clothes generally are not color fast.
    Washing Colors Without Bleeding

To set colors in colored items, soak them for an hour in a mix of 1/2 cup vinegar, 1/2 tablespoon of salt, and 1/2 gallon of water. If the rinse water shows color after an hour, repeat the process. Use this technique only for single-colored items, because multi-colored items may bleed into each other. Multicolored items will likely need to be dry-cleaned.:)
If you turn your clothes inside out before popping them in the machine to be washed , this will help keep the color, also if your are hanging your clothes outside in the sun, Make sure you turn them inside out as the sun will bleach the color out of them. The sun is great for bleaching your whites whiter than white, also for bleaching stains from your clothes, the natural way
I was always told to use Woolite on darks as it keeps the coloured clothes their brightest.
Wash dark colors in cold water and use a laundry detergent especially formulated for dark colors and/or cold water. There are several ';no fade'; detergents on the market right now. Woolite is always good for colors and delicate fabrics.

Dark colors will always fade a little bit in the wash no matter what detergent you use, it's just a fact of laundry.

How do I wash my clothes without shrinking them?

I've had this problem and all my clothes look pretty retarded now.anyway to keep them from shrinking when they're drying? How do I wash my clothes without shrinking them?
If you are drying your clothes in a dryer, then there will always be a bit of shrinkage and lots of shrinkage to all cotton and natural fibres (you will ruin wool items this way). They always shrink in the dryer, no way out of that one, and always when using warm to hot water to wash.

Best to wash all natural fibres in COLD water only and hang to dry, never put in the dryer.

Some people will put T-shirts in dryer for a few minutes only (approx.10-15 minutes) to avoid creases and immediately take out and hang straightaway to dry rest of moisture. You can hang on hangers or on a clothesline. Hope this helps.

How do I wash my clothes without shrinking them?
Wash in cold water, delicate cycle. Using Woolite helps. You can tumble in dryer using air/fluff setting for 5 minutes or so to remove wrinkles. Remove from the dryer. Lay flat to finish drying, gently stretching back into shape.
Only natural fibers shrink. If your clothes are cotton, wool, linen or silk they can shrink. Blends and manmade fibers don't shrink. Wash in cold and dry on a lower setting to keep clothes looking their best,
Make sure you follow the care label instruction on your clothes, that may help. Using cold water for the wash may also help prevent shrinkage.
Use the lowest temperature possible in the gentle cycle.
wash on gentle/warm, dry on low or air dry. : ) Be especially careful if it has a high cotton content.
Your best bet is to air dry, or dry on low but it might take a little longer

How do you wash white clothes?

    1) Sort your laundry into white and colored items. Most white items are fairly similar (tee-shirts, undies, socks, men's dress shirts, etc. BUT if you have some delicate white items wash them separately from the other whites.

    2) Pre-treat spots, stains, collars, cuffs etc. Let sit for a bit.

    3) Whenever possible, use hot water.

    4) If items are a bit tattle-tale gray, add bleach and 20 mule team borax along with your detergent. Follow amounts listed on the containers. How do you wash white clothes?
wash them with other clothes of similar colours, do the washing powder thing then add nappy san it works wonders. also if the clothes are abit dirty and stained soak them over night in nappy san and a little washing powder then wash as normal in the morning. How do you wash white clothes?
Hmmm. Well if your white clothes aren't crazy infected with germs, use cold water. Also, wash them seperatly. You can use bleach to whiten them up too.
I just wash them separately with cold water and my regular detergent. No bleach. The into the dryer with a dryer sheet unless it's bras, which are hung to dry.

How do you wash baby clothes?

Do I need to turn them inside out? Should a snowsuit be washed too before the baby wears it?How do you wash baby clothes?
Use Dreft. Wash on perm press to get the clothes really clean. Wash all clothes before it is warn just in case there are any chemicals left on the clothes from the manufacturer. How do you wash baby clothes?
every thing needs to washed before the baby wears it, use dreft , its laundry soap for baby's and put it on a short load with warm water and low heat to dry
It's recommended you wash all clothes before wearing, they could be in a warehouse collecting mold spores or the starch could cause an allergy.

That being said I never wash clothes before I or the kids wear them.

To handwash it doesn't have to be turned inside out. Fill the sink with water, put in a small amount of your baby's detergent and slosh it around a bit. Then rinse and wring a ton of times until no bubbles and then drip-dry.
Its best to wash the clothes before being worn because clothes on the rack in the stores fall and sometimes there out there for a long time which attracts dust and gets dirty.

So its best to wash babies clothes before being worn.
I wash every thing before my kids wore it too. I used regular soap(no one has allergies) I also added a cup of vinegar to the wash to help rinse out everything. It also worked to kill off the thrush my daughter and I had. As for turning things inside out, it'll say on the label, I have 3 kids so I just toss everything in and hope it all comes out ok!
With my first two I used dreft and did all that ';hypo-allergic'; stuff. But with children number three and four, I've washed them in Tide or All just like everyone elses. I just wash them with the rest of our clothes. Doing laundry for 6 people now, who has time to do baby's separately!?
Everything should be washed first in hypoallergenic soap such as DReft or Tide free or whatever
Everything should be washed before a wear! I used our detergent after washing them in baby draft first, when he was leaning on us and I saw no signs of a rash we went to ours, saved money too! That baby draft is $22! But make sure you wash first, people have been touching the clothes and have grems, but save the tags in case it doesn't fit our is the wrong gender color. And no you don't have to turn them inside out.
I washed everything that was new for my babies. You dont know what could have gotten on the clothing when it was being packaged and how many people that have touched it even bugs could have been on it many germs. You dont have to worry about turning them inside out just use baby detergent and will be fine.
First of all, make sure you pre-treat stains, such as spit up, with something like Shout before you wash them. For regular clothes, you don't need to turn inside out. I would only do so if there were appliques on them. You should wash everything before baby wears anything - including the snowsuit. Use a gentle detergent, such as Ivory Snow - it's worth the extra cost to not aggravate baby's skin.
I washed all of my clothes in Dreft before I let my baby wear them.....some clothes do need to be turned inside out...(check the tag and it will tell you)
It's good to wash all new baby clothes before they are worn. Use a good mild detergent such as Dreft, or at least a mild fabric softener. I dont see why you would need to turn them inside out.
First try looking at the labels inside the garments. Usually there are washing instructions on or behind the label. If not, just try to wash them in the gentle cycle and use very mild detergent. You can hand-wash them in Woolite as well, until you are comfortable with machine washing them. I think it's a good idea to wash the garments before your baby wears them for the first time...they have such sensitive skin. Good luck!
I washed everything before my son wore it, it wasn't so stiff that way and I knew it was clean. I washed his clothes in Dreft and turned the items that might get pilly inside out.
Anything that the baby gets in contact with should be washed before used. You don't have to turn them inside out.

You can use any detergent that says it is specially formulated for Babies. You can use this also for pre-treatment. For tough stains I bought a Stain Remover in spray called ';Totally Toddler'; (I found it at K-Mart)
Wash all clothing new or old, with a mild soap. It doesn't have to be inside out and don't use anything like fabric softner or anything scented that might mess with the babies sensitive skin.

    Hope I helped.
follow the instructions on the tag.. if the snowsuit is machine washable,, yes.. wash it to remove manufacturing chemicals.. Use Dreft.. and rince twice (my machine has a double rince cycle)
it is best to turn them inside out but look for signs of any rash which could be caused by the soap powder you use.
Same way you wash your clothes but just use an allergic free detergent.. Dreft is really expensive so I used All Free with both of my kids and it works good!!
Dreft All clothes should be washed before wearing. Maybe not snow suit if it doesn't contact babys skin
I dont see where u would need to turn the clothes inside out before washing but i do recomend that u use the dreft loundry detergent for baby clothing because is is hypoalergenic and babies skin is a whole lot more sensetive then ours but also feel free to use stain lifters such as shout. as far as the snow suit I would hand wash is before use but not by the washing machine
    USE DREFT DET
