my washer has been broke for about a week now and until i can get another one ive been washing my clothes by hand in my sink or bathtub. i dont want to waste my money going to a laundry mat, i beleive those places are nasty. anyways my question is how can i make sure im really getting my clothes clean after i wash them? what i do is let them soak in hot water and laundry detergent for a little while and if any thing has a stain then try to scrub it out. after i let them soak i rinse them out really well and throw them into the dryer. it could just be where im so use to washing them in the washer but it seems to me after theyre dry they just dont seem as clean as id like them to be...idk is theyre anything more i can do to get them clean? thanx for anyones help!!I need some tips on hand washing clothes?
Oh my dear! A broken washer, I do sympathize with you, as I recently had my laundry room turn upside down while we removed a washer (that BARELY worked) and dryer and installed another one and had some problems with the cord not reaching the outlet in the new setup! It stinks having to make do until things return to normal. Your problem with your wash at this point, is that there is NO AGITATION going on. You're doing the soaking, you're doing the detergent and using the hot water. What you need to do is like we did back when dinosaurs ruled the earth and beat them on a rock, or a washboard to get the AGITATION of the machine and the cleaning ACTION! You can try to swish them around in the tub or sink a bit, but unless you can really give them some serious turnings, you will note less than satisfactory results. I would encourage you if you must go longer than a week or two in this state, to check out a few local laundromats, you might be surprised to find out they are better maintained than you thought. The ones in my area are VERY well maintained, except one, which I wouldn't take my dog to, but the others are quite nice and one in particular, is clean, neat, has large front loaders and soft drink and snack machines, as well as a nice tv and some cable. Its worth a few bucks to use in a pinch! Lucky for me, the laundry room is back up and running, and I hope your is soon, too! Good luck!I need some tips on hand washing clothes?
Don't worry that much.
The first things you can always do is much sure the sink,tub or bucket is clean with some bleach before using it.
The 2nd thing is if you must have to go to laundry mat you can also take a disinfect and spray cleaner and wipe them before using them the owners wont care.

For white clothes you can add some bleach to water
For color clothes you can add color safe bleach 2
I get a bucket and wash them in that, dry on a clothes rack and avoid wringing them, (that causes wrinkles)
One thing to think about is that most of us don't do heavy or dirty work so our clothes usually don't need heavy duty cleaners or hot water to clean. (This of course does not involve diapers or greasy work clothes ) Having said that what makes your clothes clean is the agitation of the machine. You heard of women beating clothes against rocks in the river? They didn't have any soap. It was the motion of
beating that got the clothes clean. If you are really intent on
cleaning you have to move those clothes around in the tub.
Rub them together and swish them in the water etc and you have to do it for five or ten minutes to get them really clean. I think you will find after awhile the laundramat looks more attractive. The one I used to go to was wonderful. Clean and well run and the owners were very friendly. If you are nervous check it out one day before you take your clothes in. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

I need help ASAP? Its about washing clothes twice?
Im always wanting to wash my clothes twice because i feel that 1 wash wont clean the clothes properly. A few days ago my mum got the water bill and it was alot. She told me that i cant wash my clothes twice anymore, and then we had a bigg fight. What should i do? The reason i have been washing my clothes twice is because i did sumthing wich requires ghusl. It wasnt zinaa. Its supposedly not a very bigg sin, actually minor, but its still a sin wich requires ghusl. And since i still havnt performd ghusl, and have been wearing all my clothes, i have decided to wash ALL of them. My mum dusnt know about me washing ALL of my clothes, only about me wanting to wash them twice. So i dno wat to do. I wana wash ALL my clothes, but i also wana wash them ALL twice. This is because i will only feel that they will b ok for me to wear after washing them twice. I dno any other Muslims that wash their clothes twice. Do you? Maybe i should ask Allah(swt) wat to do? Plz help me ASAP!I need help ASAP? Its about washing clothes twice?
It seems for me that u r always looking for the perfection in ur life and always precise in performing ur tasks :)
And btw it's also the same reason in my opinion that may makes u taking long time to finish ur tasks :) ';from ur previous Q';.
Like for example, if there's a certain task needed to be done by u and another person, it may take 30 mins from that person, while it may take longer from u, because be4 u start doing this task, u may start thinking first and organize ur steps and picture how would u like that task to be finished.. And since u care about every single detail, ur task would be longer than what it should be and would take more time n efforts, so that would make u get lazy on doing it on time n will lead to delaying ur tasks :)

Unfortunately, I do that too, I wash the stuff in the washer for twice and three times too sometimes. And also washing my hands three times all the time..

I remember a story I heard b4 about that the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) saw a man doing his wudo'o and repeating it 3 times, so he asked him why he was doing that, and the man told him that he feels like he was missing something, and the prophet (pbuh) told him that he shouldn't do that and that he should always trust the 1st wudoo he made, because it's the devil who is making him suspecting about the accuracy of his works.

na don't become obsessive, wash ur clothes once!! but then if u can actually see dirt or smell andythin then wash it again, otherwise don't wash it twice, and Allah dislikes wastful people, so if ur using up so much water in order to wash ur clothes twice ur not doing good in the eyes of Allah because u r wasting so much water!!!
Use a washing machine, or go to the Laudromat. That way you can put them all in the laundry and pay for it yourself, without your mom having to foot a huge water bill.
And please try to stay in a state of purity and Wudhu all the time. This helps us all to refrain from sin.
Washing them once would be enough to make them clean for a Muslim.Don't let the satan involve you in a task thats not important.You'll need willpower and nobody except Allah can help you with that.Just shrug that voice that keeps telling you your clothes are not clean.

Add some disinfectant to the wash..
Also you could add a cup of white vinegar to your wash.. this really is bio good (green) and helps boost the detergent.. I now buy a huge econo jug and use it in both my laundry and dishwasher.. it gets them sparkling clean and you dont smell the vinegar afterwards..
but if you dont care, there are tons of laundry boosters out there that help and are not expensive..
edit:.. another alternative is get a job and help pay the water bill...

according to a hadith...if you wanna get away from sins and evil actions, you first need to quit lying....because when u commit a sin...u need to lie in order to hide it....so once u decide not to lie anymore WHAT SO EVER...u;ll end up quitting all your wrong doings...
second, u have no right to get mad over your mom when all of this crap began due to the sin u commited (whatever sin u r talkin about...)......all you gotta do is stay sincere to islam...stay sincere to Allah...n u wont have one single fight with your mom, family, or anyone around u...
for now ...i'd suggest that u wash them once...no need to wash them twice....u r wasting water n gettin ur mom to be upset with u

salaam i think you are making a problem for yourself,if clothes are washed properly once, and rinsed 7 times, and by this i dont mean using 7 times more water to do it, the way we do it here is to wring the clothes 7 times under clean running water before spinning.Islam does not require washing clothes twice (unless they are obviously soiled), dont make work and expense for yourself....hope this helps
Just realize when you wash clothes in a washing machine....it doesn't kill any bacteria or anything like that......it simply washing it off your clothes and the water goes out the drain.
Figure if you are sick, throwing your clothes in the washing machine makes them clean enough someone else can't get sick from your clothes....... 1 wash is good enough to take care of the other stuff.

I'm 29 weeks pregnant. How early should I start washing baby clothing and blankets?
I know that seems like a strange question, but I'm starting to get that urge to wash everything, but I don't want to do it too soon. Any good suggestions on when to launder everything?I'm 29 weeks pregnant. How early should I start washing baby clothing and blankets?
im also 29 weeks and have pretty much all the clothes ill need for a good while.. anywho i washed and put them away also did the blankets i have.. had the urge one day so i did it.. as i get more and its enough for a load of laundry or 2 i wash them and put them away also.. i mainly did it so i could get it organized so i knew what i had and didnt have and whatt all i needed come to find out i need socks and thats about it! haha
congrats! i bet ur just as excited as i am.. terrified to give birth but.. i suppose its a little late to turn back on that one haha..
p.s i am having a little boy and his name is Chandler...
EDITT:: just saw the person aboves answer and i have my clothes in a rubbermaid storage dresser thing... its smallish i guess.. also have the dryer sheets in with it and it does help keep it fresh who knows maybe ill wash it all again when the time gets closer hahaI'm 29 weeks pregnant. I'm 38w3d and okay, maybe I've left it a bit late, we started the blankets, towels and hospital outfits two weeks ago, today I'm going to do the rest - or I might push my luck and wait a bit longer... I'm trying to leave it as late as possible as the days are excruciatingly long and drawn out at the moment - once that's done there's just NOTHING left to do!
If you do any now, you'll probably have to do it again later but you'll have security of knowing it's done just in case bub comes early.
My advice is to wash it with an unscented, hypo-allergenic laundry detergent to avoid rashes on your baby's skin. You can wash it as soon as you want, but the problem will be keeping it fresh smelling. You should buy some rubbermaid tubs to fold and store everything you wash so it will retain it's freshness. You could put a couple dryer sheets between layers of blankets or clothes to help keep the scent pleasant.
I've been having to biggest urge to do this also (28 weeks pregnant)! I'm trying to make myself wait until after Christmas, atleast, and hopefully until after my baby shower (3 weeks later), just so that I can get everything washed and done at once.
I'm planning on using a detergent that is dye and fragrance free, since I have sensitive skin and use it anyways.
If you want to wash them now, go ahead, then put them into plastic tubs to keep them clean and dust free.
I would wait until ur about 34-36 weeks and of course I know you're going to use Dreft. You should also use that on your clothes too since you will be holding the baby alot and he/she will be touching your clothes. Good luck and congrats.

U don't wanna wash it too early because you will just have to rewash everything again.

I live in the cold wet pacific northwest too. I gave up my tumble dryer over a year ago. In the warmer months I use the clothesline outside. I wash all my colored clothing inside out and hang on the line this way to keep them from fading. I wash all my whites right side out and hang up right side out so the sun will help bleach them and keep them bright.
In the winter/rainy season (which is 6 months of the year) I have 2 long pipes suspended from the ceiling in my garage by giant hooks. I use these to hang clothes on with coat hangers. I supplement this with a wooden drying rack for towels, sheets, socks, underwear, etc.
Even in the winter when it is wet and humid here, most of my clothes dry within 24 hours in my unheated garage.
I have bad allergies, so in the spring when the pine trees have a lot of pollen and leave a yellow coating on everything, I just hang indoors until the threat has gone. I have found that by hanging my clothes they last longer and it is actually easier. I can hang everything up and forget about them for a few days until I am ready to put them away. Unlike the tumble dryer, which I have to rush to pull them from the dryer so they don't get all wrinkled.
There is nothing better than line dried clothing and no commercial product can copy that fresh scent. They all try, but they fail.
If I can hang my clothing year round, in such a wet climate, everyone else can too. I guess it just depends on your level of commitment.
I save a lot of money and I am not putting so much carbon into the environment by doing this. I doubt if I will be purchasing another tumble dryer again. This system works very well at my house for us.

Yes - environmentally friendly does NOT come in to it. Tumble Driers are to expensive.

Weather permitting I do. I finish towels etc. on a cold tumble to soften. Had to get them in this afternoon as we got a shower in Berkshire (like the contributor from Surrey - well it is only down the road).
Yes but once i left my coat on the line and when i brought it in it smelt of Tomcats so i had to wash it again.
Yes. It makes the clothes smell fresher and costs less (just need a line and some pegs if you don't have any already) as well being environmentally friendly.
Sure do - it saves on ironing too. Just had to leg-it outside though as an unforecast shower descended on (otherwise) sunny Surrey!
Yes I love to smell the fresh air on my washing.
In damp weather I dry them on a rack and then finish off in the dryer machine.
We do whenever we can as everything seems fresher that way.

Yes - environmentally friendly does NOT come in to it. Tumble Driers are to expensive.
I do when I can but not everyone is lucky enough to have outside space to do this.

What washes clothes better, front loader washers or the newer top loaders?
I thought the top loaders were ';standard'; and the front loaders were the new style? Shows how much I know. I prefer my whirlpool (standard top loader) that's about 2 yrs old. It's the biggest tub I could find. I like to wash my quilts and it does the trick. Go to epinions.com for reviews. Also some sites have customer reviews on them. How can I wash my clothes and not make them shrink?
I have tried different variations. I have washed my clothes in cold water, air dry, still shrink. I have washed them in cold water and put in dryer, shrink. I have even hand washed them in the bathtub with cold water, still shrink. I could buy a bigger size, but i bought a whole bunch of new shirts that are just the right size and i dont want them to shrink. I was wondering if there is a powder to put on them to clean them, or just throw them in the dryer with something for a short period of time with some kind of cleaning agent. any advice would help and thanks a lotHow can I wash my clothes and not make them shrink?

maybee try one of the at home dry cleaning kits ,they work pretty well as long as the garment is not to badly soiled

Where do I wash my clothes when I go to college?
I don't want to use dirty washers, you know college people are dirty. So what is an alternative place to wash my clothing, if i live far from home? Do dry cleaning places do laundry? How much would they charge to wash clothing? Any suggestions?Where do I wash my clothes when I go to college?
Some laundromats have ';drop off service'; where you drop off your clothes to be washed, they charge by the poundage and then you pick them up at the end of the day, all folded and clean. BUT, I would guess that doesn't come cheap.
You can wash them yourself at the laundromat.
And, who says college people are dirty so you can't even think of using washers that they use. The word ';washer'; is the key word here. It washes things. So, at the end of a wash load, the machine should be as clean as you'd find it anywhere else. Also, I'm sure that dorm maintenance cleans them as part of routine maintenance, just as they clean other areas of the dorms, like the bathrooms, showers (if you have them in common areas and they are shared)etc.Where do I wash my clothes when I go to college?
