How do you wash black clothes without making them fade?

I bought a nice black hoodie and i fear that if I wash, it will look as if it were three years old. HELP!!!!How do you wash black clothes without making them fade?
Turn the hoodie inside out before you put it in the washer. Then wash %26amp; rinse it in cold water. That will help reduce fading. Use a coloursafe detergent or one made for dark clothes like Zero %26amp; wash with other dark clothing. I know they did a consumer tests results and the one that faded the least was Cheer (original formula). If you soak the hoodie in white vinegar just before you put it the wash for the 1st time, that will help seal the colour too.How do you wash black clothes without making them fade?
The most important thing is to always wash it in cold water. I think Tide has a new detergent out specifically for dark colors. or it may be Woolite. I forget which. And let it hang to dry.
cold water wash/rinse and Cheer now has laundry soap made especially for black clothing to prevent fading
cold water and wash it with other black clothes. It keeps the color in all of them and prevents you getting black on your other colored clothes. Some companies make soaps JUST for black clothes. One of those might be good to try.
cold water and a little dish washing liquid,no clothes detergent
Some use scotch guard to prevent this but once you wash the item you need to scotch guard it again. If washed often they this is not the way. Dry cleaning is not as harsh but can be expensive. I always washed an item by hand or on gentle cycle, use only cold water and hang to dry. Warm water and hot air temp can fade color and the hot air can weaken the material so it does not look so nice. I use a very delicate detergent like Woolite or anything without perfume or color additives.
Wash them only with other black clothes. Woolite has a special detergent made for dark clothes. (Most water has bleach in it and I think it neutralizes the bleach in the water).
Use detergent and settings for dark colors and . . . add salt ( at least 1/2 to 1 cup depending on the load size) to the washer the first few times you wash it. The salt helps set the dye in the fabric (and softens the water). I add salt to any load with new clothes and it helps keep the clothes looking better longer.
I would suggest using a laundry cleaner for delicates (woolite).... and hand wash only....Rinse well...then put in the washer to spin...
you've received several very good ideas,,what will also help is to turn the item you are washing inside out while using a cold water wash cycle,,good luck,,it worked for me doing this
Use Cheer and wash it in cold water.
Wash in cold water and line dry.
I wash ALL my clothes in cold water. This not only keeps colors from fading, but is good on your pocket book.
A cold water wash in a little soap powder.
Dry clean it. I wear a lot of black and I've tried everything, including hand washing. Sorry, that's probably not what you wanted to hear.
Hi,

Do all of the things suggested by the other posters. But I also keep a bottle of black dye in the Landry. There is this one shirt my husband has that is black and know matter what I do it always ends up fading. So every now and then I soak the skirt in a bucket of black dye. There is know need to use all of the dye at once, you can make it last for about 3 to 4 goes or more, then buy some more.
cool water, and cheer for color clothes, and drip dry. dryers put fuzz balls an them
get woolite for dark clothing and flip it inside out...makes clothes fad less
Wash in cold water only and and add ammonia to the load. It helps set the color.
What Michelle said and don't dry in the dryer. Hang it up and let it drip dry.
Wash all the colored wash inside out, and use detergent for colored clothes.
