Is it ok to wash ALL clothes in cold water?

For lazy people like me who don't like to read the washing instructions on clothes. Is it generally safe to wash clothes in cold (gental) cycle? Followed by hanging dry my dress shirts and drying my other clothes as usual?Is it ok to wash ALL clothes in cold water?
Yes, I've been doing it for years. As long as your clothes aren't especially dirty, then there is no reason why you would want to wash them in anything but cold water. Warm and hot water fades your fabrics a lot faster. For example, your jeans fade very little if washed in cold water.





For your dress shirts, once they've been washed (wash on delicate, this will cut down on the amount of wrinkles you have to shake out) then shake out the wrinkles, make sure your collar is creased correctly, hang on a hanger and gently tug on the shirt to release any remaining wrinkles. everything aside from underwear, linen and towels can be washed in cold water. You need to kill the germs on those items and the only way to do it is with hot water.
I wash everything in Cold; except for Towels and Whites that I wash in HOT. Cold make you clothes last longer and many things can't take the hot water.

It is fine. In fact, the default if you don't know the washing instructions should be to wash on delicate in cold water. Colors will not bleed and fabrics will not shrink. One caveat: you might use more energy to machine dry clothes that have been washed in cold water.





Also, I would wash bedding in hot water to kill dust mites, which can cause allergies and are extremely common in sheets and blankets. Bath towels, also, should be washed in hot, or at least warm, water, and well dried before being put away.
i think it is ok.. i like to wash towels on hot water.. but i would definately use the tide cold water detergent.. it rocks and aside from your laziness.. it is cheaper on the bill to use hot water all the time
I wash all mine in cold water cause it saves on the electricity and doesn't use all the hot water from the water heater. AND colors don't fade as fast.
